Certification Maintenance

Maintain Your Hard-Earned CPIM or CFPIM Designation

To keep your CPIM or CFPIM status current and avoid suspension of your credentials, you must demonstrate that you have maintained your certification through the APICS Certification Maintenance program every five years. To maintain your hard earned designation, CPIMs must earn 75 professional development points, and CFPIMs must earn 100 professional development points.

Application Submissions

Once you have earned the correct number of professional development points, submit your completed Certification Maintenance Application, Professional Development Journal, and processing fee no later than the last day of the anniversary month in which you were certified.

APICS CPIM /CFPIM Certification Maintenance (Categories and Points Allocations)
I. Continuing Education (No Maximum for Points Earned)
Conference, Seminar, Workshop	1 point per full hour of production
Professional Development Meeting (PDM)	1 point per full hour of production
Degreed Course	1 point per full hour of production
APICS Exam	10 points per exam passed
Independent Study	3 points per program completed
II. Presentations, Publications, & Educational Development (Max Points: CPIM=60; CFPIM=80)
Teaching Courses, Tutorials, Seminars, Workshops	2 points per full hour of instruction
Unpublished Presentations	2 points per full hour of instruction
Published & Distributed article, presentation, chapter or contribution	2 points per article/contribution
Published original research	5 points per publication
Published book	30 points per book
III. Contributions to the Resource Manage Profession (No Maximum for Points Earned)
Association-level board officer	5 points per year of service
Association-level member of a governing board	4 points per year of service
Association-level chair of a standing committee	4 points per year of service
Association-level member of a standing committee	2 points per year of service
Chapter/Region-level officer of a governing board	3 points per year of service
Chapter/Region-level member of a governing board	2 points per year of service
Chapter/Region-level chair of a standing committee	2 points per year of service
Chapter/Region-level member of a standing committee	1 points per year of service
IV. Professional Membership (No Maximum for Points Earned)
APICS membership	6 points per year
Other resource management-related organization membership	1 point per year
Total points Required: CPIM=75; CFPIM=100 every 5 years
